Japan's PM announces USD 2 bn loan for Delhi Metro expansion

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today announced a loan of USD 2 billion for third phase expansion of Delhi Metro that would add another 103 km to the network.

Abe made the announcement after a summit meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The cost of the third phase expansion of Delhi Metro has been estimated at Rs 35,242 crore.

The third phase of the Delhi Metro project includes Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar corridor of 55.69 Kms, Janakpuri West- Kalindikunj corridor of 33.49 kms, Central Secretariat - Kashmere Gate line of 9.37 kms and Jahangirpuri-Badli line of 4.489 kms.

There will be a total of 67 stations with 15 inter-change points. The project is expected to be completed by March 2016.
 

The metro projects have been financially assisted by Japan International Cooperation Agency. The agency had funded Phase-I and Phase-II of Metro network.
