Jared Leto to play Joker in 'Suicide Squad'

After his Oscar-winning turn as an AIDS-afflicted transvestite in 'Dallas Buyers Club', Jared Leto is circling the role of Joker in Warner Bros 'Suicide Squad'.

The film is being directed by David Ayer and Leto is under consideration for a role in the superhero movie, said the Hollywood Reporter.

Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru created 'The Suicide Squad' team. It first appeared in Brave and the Bold No 25. Its most recent iteration includes characters Deadshot, King Shark, Captain Boomerang and Harley Quinn.

The story is about convicted supervillains who are given a chance to redeem themselves through dangerous missions. The film is slated for release on August 5, 2016.
 

Leto has been busy as the lead singer of his band Thirty Seconds to Mars.

He won the best supporting actor Oscar this year for 'Dallas'.
