An organisation representing Jats today threatened to launch a fresh agitation against the Centre and Uttar Pradesh government to press for reservation for the community.

Akhil Bhartiya Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti said members of the community will protest in front of the houses of all Members of Parliament having a Jat majority in their constituencies.

"We will launch protests as the Centre is not serious about reservation for Jats and has categorised Jats into the OBC category whenever we have demanded reservation," Yashpal Malik, president of the Samiti, said.

The strategy for the protests will be decided in a meeting to be held here on July 9, he said.

He said the Samiti had submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister in this regard during its agitation at Jantar Mantar in Delhi in March, but the government had failed to take any steps in this regard.

"The government has been using the reservation issue just to woo voters during elections," he alleged.
