The All India Jat Maha Sabha today held Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal "responsible for the denial" of reservation benefits under OBC category to Jats of Punjab.

Addressing a press conference here, Maha Sabha secretary general Yudhvir Singh and vice president Harpal Singh alleged Badal deliberately delayed the matter fearing that the Congress might get the advantage out of the move.

They said for this petty political interest Badal denied the reservation benefits to the educated Jat youths of Punjab, who include both Hindu and Sikh.

"Had Badal not delayed the process today the Jat youths would have been entitled to reservation in Indian Civil Services, other central government services and higher education institutions under OBC category," Singh said.

He said Congress leader Amarinder Singh had continuously been reminding Badal about the urgency of submitting the proposal to the Centre so that the reservation benefits could be extended to Punjab also.

"But Badal thought that if he did so the Congress might get the benefit in elections so he delayed the matter," he alleged.
