Jat mahapanchayat seeks restoration of reservation

A Sarv Jat Mahapanchayat here today sought restoration of reservation in government jobs and vowed to launch a struggle on the issue.

The views were expressed here at a 'Sarv Jat Khap MahaPanchayat' held here to consider the issue of reservation to jats in government jobs.

It was decided in the Mahapanchayat that Jat community would stage dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to press its demand for restoration of quota for Jats.

The dharna will be staged on May 11, and future course of action would be decided at the site of dharna. Nafe Singh Nain, president of Binain khap presided over the Mahapanchayat.
 

Various leaders of Jat Khaps (caste council) from Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh participated in the Mahapanchayat and expressed their views.

A Supreme Court recent verdict of setting aside a notification issued by the previous UPA government to include Jats in the central list of Other Backward Classes evoked a strong reaction from Jat leaders present in the Mahapanchayat.

The Jat leaders demanded restoration of job quota' for jats in the government jobs.

Jat leaders said that they would meet Union minister and Member of Parliament from their community to seek "justice" for jats.

They said that they would struggle till reservation is restored to the community. They called upon Jat organisation and Khap Panchayats to be united for the welfare of community.

Prominent among Jat leaders who were present in the Mahapanchayat include Yudhvir Singh, Pawanjit Bharwala, Kuldeep Singh Dhanda, Dharampal Chhot, S P Prihar, Hawa Singh Sangwan and Mahender Singh.
