Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar would attend the gala Indian film festival being organised here on August 21 featuring seven celebrated Hindi and one Malayalam films.

The films featured in the festival included Jodhaa Akbar, Oh My God, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Tare Zameen Par, Dil Chahta Hai, Queen, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and Malayalam film Manjadikuru, an Indian Embassy press release here said today.

The film festival is being organised as part of year long Glimpses India Festival in 12 cities of China by the Indian Embassy here to promote Indian culture.

The festival features Indian classical music, dances, food as well as films.

Javadekar will be the second Minister of Prime Minister Narendra Modi cabinet to visit China after Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman travelled to the country in June along with Vice President Hamid Ansari.

He was expected to discuss among others more openings for Indian films to be shown in China, which permits only 25 foreign films in all to be shown in its theatres.

Currently, Amir Khan's Dhoom-3 featured in the theatres, the first in Indian film in several years but has not made big mark on Chinese film goers unlike the Three Idiots which was a big hit. Poor marketing was stated to be the reason.

India hopes with the improvement in relations and growing interest in Indian culture and films, China would open to Bollywood films by permitting more Indian films.
