Lyricists Javed Akhtar and Prasoon Joshi today celebrated legendary musician Bob Dylan's Nobel Literature Prize win saying his songs make a great piece of literature.

The 75-year-old singer-songwriter was honoured last month "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition".

"This year the Nobel Literature Prize has been given to a songwriter and I am really happy with it. Dylan's song is nothing less than literature that has agitated the people of America. His creations have been included in the syllabus of schools and colleges in the US," Akhtar said during a session at Sahitya AajTak event.

Saying that songs can make an integral part of literature, Akhtar mentioned that writings of Paul McCarthy is part of the collection of literary works put in one of the libraries of London.

"Bob Dylan getting Nobel Literature Prize proves that for common people songs are recognised as literature," Prasoon said.

Dylan is regarded as one of the most influential figures in contemporary popular culture.
