Jawan injured in Nagaland ambush

A jawan was injured when suspected militants ambushed an Assam Rifles convoy on the National Highway-2 near Phesama village on the outskirts of the state capital today.

One jawan sustained bullet injury while the vehicles of 19 Assam Rifles were hit by bullets as suspected militants ambushed them from the nearby jungles, a defence official said. The jawan was hospitalised.

The Assam Rifles party was heading from Kohima to Jakhama when they were attacked.

Movement of traffic was halted in the area for about two hours as the Assam Rifles and police conducted search operation, he said.
