Jaya announces initiatives to strengthen SC, ST school infra

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today made a host of announcements aimed at strengthening the infrastructure of Schedule Caste and Tribal schools, amenities for students there and for SC, ST women.

In a suo moto statement in the assembly, she said five Adi Dravidar, tribal residential high schools would be upgraded as higher secondary schools at a cost of Rs.2.54 crore. Similarly, 15 middle schools would be upgraded as high schools at a cost of Rs.2.40 crore.

In Oooty, a (Ekalaiva) residential school will be set up on the lines of those in Villupuram (Vellimalai) and Salem (Abhinavam). Also, smart class rooms will be set up in 26 tribal residential high schools at a cost of Rs.1.31 crore.
 

For working Adi Dravidar and tribal women, new hostels would be launched in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli Districts in the first phase at a cost of Rs.4.40 crore.

She said 260 steam boilers would be provided to 160 tribal residential schools and 100 Adi Dravidar Welfare schools at a cost of Rs.12.20 Crore.

She also said stainless steel plate and tumbler will be provided to 98,039 students in 1,314 Adi Dravidar Welfare Hostels at a cost of Rs.1.46 crore.
