Jaya inaugurates Vivekananda Cultural Centre

A Rs three crore Vivekananda Cultural Centre set up here by the Sri Ramakrishna Mission with the state government assistance has been inaugurated by Chief Minsiter Jayalalithaa.

Built in the premises of the Vivekananda House, where the reformist monk stayed for nine days in 1897 after his tour of Western world, the 8,000 square feet centre was inaugurated by Jayalalithaa through video conferencing yesterday.

It had been built at an estimated cost of Rs. Three crore, with Rs.Two crore contributed by the state government, as part of Vivekananda's 150th birth anniversary celebrations, a government press release said here today.

Programmes on nurturing the growth of young people and their leadership skills were among the several other initiatives of the centre.
 

The state government has given the Vivekananda House on a lease of 99 years to the Sri Ramakrishna Mission.
