Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today offered prayers at the famous Lord Ranganathaswamy temple at nearby Srirangam.

On a brief private visit, Jayalalithaa, accompanied by her close aide Sasikala Natarajan, arrived at the ancient temple to a traditional reception by priests and officials.

She spent about 50 minutes in the temple but had to skip a couple of sub-temples in view of sudden heavy downpour.

Later, she called on the 46th head of Sri Ahobila Mutt Sri Ranganatha Yatheendra Maha Desikan at Srirangam and interacted with him for about ten minutes.

Jayalalithaa, elected to the assembly from Srirangam constituency, also offered homage to the two predecessors of the seer at their 'samadhis'. She left for Chennai by a flight from here later in the evening.

Andhra Pradesh Governor E S L Narasimhan called on the mutt head separately.
