Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today ordered a series of measures for upgrading sports infrastructure in the state by allocating Rs 35.77 crore.
Increasing the allowance for nutritious food for sportspersons training in State-run sports hostels from Rs75 to Rs 250 at an outlay of Rs 10.12 crore, refurbishing the synthetic hockey ground in Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium at a cost of Rs 3.50 crore and renovating District Sports Complexes (Rs 5 crore) were among the initiatives announced in an official release here.
Setting up world class sports centres in Srirangam, Tirunelveli and Erode at a cost of Rs 1.60 crore to coach students, an Integrated Sports Complex comprising, among others, a squash stadium and volleball court here at a cost of Rs 12 crore, were among the other measures granted for developing sports infrastructure in the state.
Also, Rs 12 crore has been allocated to set up a training academy in Madurai District to coach students enrolled in National Cadet Corps.
