Deepa Jayakumar, niece of late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, today welcomed the Supreme Court convicting AIADMK General Secretary V K Sasikala in a disproportionate assets case, saying it was a "good and long pending verdict."
"This is a good verdict, a just verdict as those who have to go to jail have gone. This verdict was long pending and most welcomed," she told reporters here.
"Now it is clear that those who indulged in corruption have been taken to task. I have always been saying that Sasikala could never be accepted because of the assets case," she said.
The Supreme Court today restored AIADMK chief V K Sasikala's conviction in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case and sent her back to jail, making her bid to become chief minister of Tamil Nadu short-lived and sparking a fresh battle for power in the ruling party.
