"I have no idea why they have (NHAI) gone to court. Because whatever they wanted is already done even before they went to court," the minister told reporters here when asked about the NHAI decision to approach the Supreme Court against Environment Ministry on the issue.
The NHAI's move came as it alleged that several highways projects are stuck for green nods.
They have argued that companies were withdrawing from the projects complaining about the delay in granting clearances for diversion of forest land.
Natarajan refused to divulge more details on the issue, saying the matter was under discussion and it would not be fair for her to comment on it.
The delay in clearances is mainly on account of linking the environment clearance with forest clearance and condition of obtaining no objection certificate from Gram Sabha of the concerned village under the Forest Rights Act.
For road projects, the environment ministry gives environmental clearances only after forest clearances are obtained.
