It was a day of upsets at the Fenesta Open National Championship today as Delhi's Siddharth Rawat stunned defending champion Mohit Mayur Jayaprakash in a men's singles quarterfinal match, while Vaishnavi Peddireddy got the better of top seed Rishika Sunkara to enter the semifinals of women's singles.

Siddharth completely dominated the proceedings against third seed Mohit and registered a comfortable 6-4 6-0 win.

Vaishnavi also overcame a mental block to post a hard-fought 7-6(5) 4-6 6-4 victory over Rishika in the last eight encounter at the R K Khanna Tennis Complex here.

In other quarterfinals today, fourth seed Nitten Kirrtane also suffered a similar fate, losing to Ronit Bisht 0-6 1-6. But top seed Karunuday Singh managed to beat V M Ranjit 6-4 6-2 to set up a semifinal clash with Siddharth tomorrow.

In the women's singles, Prerna Bhambri continued her dominant form and shut the door on Sharon Paul 6-3 6-2 to make the semifinals.

Karman Kaur Thandi ended fourth seed Vaniya Dangwal's campaign with a straight-set 6-4 6-4 victory, while second seed Shweta Rana had to work hard for a place in the last four stage of the tournament. Shweta faced a tough challenge from Amrita Mukherjee but managed to prevail over her opponent 6-1 1-6 6-3.

Rishika had to fight hard against Vaishnavi. Rishika was 1-4 down in the opening set but battled her way back into the match and forced the set into the tie-breaker. Vaishnavi took the lead in the tie-breaker and maintained it to win 7-5.

Rishika started trailing in the second set but won five straight games to take the match into the decider. Vaishnavi broke Rishika twice to win a tough match against the top seed, who recently came back from Incheon where she represented India at the Asian Games.
