JD(U) demands implementation of prohibtion in Puducherry

: Janata Dal (United) today demanded that the Home Ministry direct the Puducherry government to clamp prohibition in the union territory as the 'wet law' now in force was responsible for setback in the health of the youth and law and order problems.

JD(U) local unit president R Arumugham in a release alleged that the AINRC government was sanctioning unlimited number of licences to private players to open arrack, toddy and liquor shopsm, which were coming up near places of worship, educational institutions and residential areas.

There had been increase in the death of breadwinners in poor families as they were addicted to liquor. While liquor shops come up in large numbers, the number of industries had been coming down, he said, adding government was not concentrating on job generation projects.
 

Arumugham demanded that the Home Ministry direct the Puducherry government to impose prohibition in Puducherry.

The Lt Governor should also take steps to represent to the Ministry on the serious consequences of the adoption of wet law in Puducherry, he said.
