Rejecting the allegations as "baseless and incorrect", the AIIMS official Vineet Chaudhary (Deputy Director, Administration), however, said that the MPs have been misinformed.

In a letter to the Prime Minster, JD(U) MP and party's chief whip in Rajya Sabha, Ali Anwar Ansari referred to representation by an NGO Janhit Abhiyan, which alleged "gross misuse of position and wasteful expenditure of public funds" by Chaudhary.

Rajnarayan, the convenor of the NGO also accused the Deputy Director of favouring few selected companies in giving tenders of construction works related to the institute to the tune of Rs 100 crores as well as spending more than Rs 20 lakh on the furniture and fittings for his office.

Dismissing the allegations, Chaudhary said, HSCC, a public sector unit under the Health Ministry, takes care of all tenders...Any work for more than Rs 5 crore needs approval of the Standing Finance Committee. I fail to undertand this allegation of irregularities worth Rs 100 crore."

In his letter to the Prime Minister, Ansari demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter and said that the situation warrants that the AIIMS official "either be suspended or directed to proceed on long leave" so that the he does not influence the investigations.

Acting on the NGO's complaint, Yadav has written to Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to "have the matter looked into" and order for an immediate inquiry.PTI SKP AMR VMN
