Janata Dal (United) leaders today charged the Congress with backstabbing their nominees in the local body elections early this month.

Speaking at the state party meet here, JD(U) State President M P Veerendrakumar said, "the merger of JD(U) with UDF did not work well as there had been no common ground for both."

"Unity among the partners is not as good as expected," he said.

State unit General Secretary Sheikh P Haris alleged that Congress had backstabbed JD(U)nominees in the civic polls.

"We did not get better results in the civic elections as the Congress betrayed out interest. We are hurt by this," he added.

Another JD(U) leader Varghese George said the Congress functionaries deliberately worked for the defeat of the party candidates.

Later talking to reporters, Veerendrakumar said they will have no alliance with the Janata Dal (secular).

The JD(U) leader said RSS and BJP were supporting Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam General Secretary Vellapally Natesan's 'Samathwa Munneta Yatra' (March for Equality).

SNDP is an organisation of backward Ezhava community.
