Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu today nominated JD(U) member Kahkashan Perween in the panel of vice chairpersons of the House.
The action came in deference to the wishes of members who, on the International Women's Day yesterday, suggested that a woman member be nominated to the panel.
Her term starts with effect from April 3.
Perween has been nominated in the place of Basawaraj Patil, whose term of office in the Rajya Sabha is expiring on April 2, according to an official communication.
Perween was the mayor of Bhagalpur Nagar Nigam, Bihar, the chairperson of Bihar Mahila Aayog and a social worker.
