The police fired in the air and arrested JD(U) MLA Narendra Kumar Singh after his and Congress supporters clashed over a land dispute at a village in Bihar's Begusarai district today, a police officer said.
The clash between the two rival groups with lathis occurred with both claiming possession of the property in Keshawe village under Singhaul police station area, Superintendent of Police Harpreet Kaur said.
The police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the warring groups, but after failing to do so fired in the air after a lathi-charge failed to disperse them, Kaur said.

Kaur and District Magistrate Manoj Kumar also reached the village to take a first-hand account of the incident.
Singh alias Bogo Singh JD(U) MLA from Matihani constituency in the district and a native of Keshawe village was arrested.
"We have arrested the JD(U) MLA for rioting," she said, adding action would also be taken against the Congress supporters.
Additional policemen were deployed in the village in view of tension, she added.
