JD(U) workers and leaders from across the country will congregate here on Saturday to ratify the election of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as the new national president of JD(U).
"The party has convened a meeting of the national council on April 23 in S K Memorial hall in the state capital where around 1,000 party workers and leaders will ratify the national executive's decision to nominate Nitish Kumar as the new party president," state party unit chief Bashishtha Narayan Singh told reporters here.
Kumar was elected party president replacing Sharad Yadav on April 10 at the party's national executive meeting in Delhi.

Nitish's election as the JD(U) national president would help anti-BJP forces come together on a single platform, he said, adding the congregation may also open the door for new alternative politics in the country.
Political resolution would be passed at the national council outlining the party's thinking and the way it wants to approach the politics of the country, Singh said.
Commenting on the Uttarakhand High Court's verdict setting aside imposition of President's Rule in the state, the JD(U) state president welcomed the decision and said: "It is a matter of happiness for all those who believe in democracy as the High Court has criticised the way the Centre imposed President's Rule in Uttarakhand. We welcome the decision.
