JDS state unit President H D Kumaraswamy said the physically challenged would get a monthly payment of Rs 2,500 if his party came to power after the poll, due in the middle of next year.

Senior citizens, widows and spinsters would get a payment Rs 1,500 per month. Women would get Rs 5000 per month, from the fifth month of pregnancy till the 12th month (for three months after delivery) to meet the nutritional requirements of mother and baby.

The party would hold a convention of physically-challenged here on Sunday. Their 35-demands would be highlighted at the meeting, and the party would implement all of them within 90 days of coming to power.

Kumaraswamy, a Lok Sabha member and son of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, claimed that gutka trading in the state tops Rs 2,500 crore annually in the state, but traders were paying taxes only for transaction of Rs 200-300 crore, depriving the state of huge revenues.
