Nelamangala Zilla Panchayat member Krishnappa was travelling in a car when the miscreants who followed him in five cars intercepted him and attacked him with sharp weapons around 8 pm near Nelamangala on the Bangalore-Pune highway, they said.
Krishnappa died on the spot, they said adding the motive behind the murder was under investigation.
The busy Bangalore-Pune Highway witnessed traffic jam following the incident.
