Janta Dal United (JDU) workers today staged a protest here demanding early release of sugarcane arrears for farmers and handed over a memorandum to Ghaziabad district collector in this regard.

"Closed Modi Sugar Mill must be reopened without any delay. Central government should abstain from amending land acquisition laws," JDU's state vice president Devendra Tyagi said.

"Diesel should be made available to farmers on priority basis and sugarcane growers must not be cheated when they sell their produce," district president Manoj Tyagi said.

A rational policy is needed to be evolved for ensuring that farmers get fair prices of their produce, he said.

In the absence of district magistrate, city magistrate Kapil Kumar Singh met the protesting party workers and apprised them about the already issued directions of the DM to SDM Modi Nagar for initiating process to reopen the Modi Sugar Mill.
