The toll due to Japanese encephalitis in Assam has risen to 64 on Tuesday and the number of positive cases of the disease was 265, according to National Health Mission (NHM) bulletin here.
NHM had on Monday said 57 had died of Japanese encephalitis and the number of positive cases was 234 in the state since January this year.
All districts of the state, except Kokrajhar are affected by JE, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Measures to control the mosquito borne disease that affects the brain are being taken in the state, NHM sources said.
National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme officers, consultants and staff are actively engaged in the task of recording JE cases and assisting those affected at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital, they added.
