Jeera prices dropped 0.72 per cent to Rs 15,790 per quintal in futures trade today, tracking a weak trend at spot market on subdued demand.

Besides, adequate stocks in the physical market on higher supplies from producing belts also put pressure on jeera prices.

At National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in July declined Rs 115, or 0.72 per cent, to Rs 15,790 per quintal with an open interest of 15,645 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in August contracts moved down Rs 105, or 0.65 per cent, to Rs 15,985 per kg in 14,244 lots.

Analysts said offloading of positions by speculators, taking negative cues from spot market on sluggish demand, mainly weighed on jeera prices at futures trade.
