Jeera prices tumbled by 2.40 per cent to Rs 14,660 per quintal in futures trade today as participants booked profits, driven by a fall in demand at the spot market against adequate stocks.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in March plunged by Rs 360, or 2.40 per cent, to Rs 14,660 per quintal, with an open interest of 7,101 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in April traded lower by Rs 335, or 2.23 per cent, to Rs 14,690 per quintal in 5,166 lots.

Analysts said besides profit-booking by traders, muted demand in the spot market at existing levels against adequate stocks position on higher supplies from the producing regions mainly pulled down jeera prices at futures trade.
