Jeera futures rise 1.75% on rising demand

Jeera prices rose by 1.75 per cent to Rs 13,670 per quintal in futures trading today as traders created fresh positions after upsurge in demand in the spot market.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, jeera for delivery in January month climbed by Rs 235, or 1.75 per cent, to Rs 13,670 per quintal with an open interest of 780 lots.

Similarly, the spice for delivery in March contracts edged up by Rs 20, or 0.14 per cent, to Rs 13,980 per quintal in 7,872 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions built up by participants due to pick up in demand in the spot market mainly led to the rise in jeera prices in futures trade.
