Jeera prices flared up by 2.92 per cent to Rs 17,960 per quintal in futures trading today as participants enlarged their positions, tracking a firm trend at the spot markets on uptick in demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivative Exchange, jeera delivery for delivery in far-month January 2017 surged by Rs 510, or 2.92 per cent, to Rs 17,960 per quintal with an open interest of 2586 lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in December month contracts was trading higher by Rs 505, or 2.85 per cent to Rs 18,210 per quintal in 7842 lots.

Analysts attributed sharp rise in jeera prices to a firm trend at the physical markets on upsurge in demand against restricted supplies from producing regions amid some exports enquiries.
