Jeera prices gained Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale kirana market today on the back of pick-up in demand against restricted supplies from producing regions.

However, other spices moved in a narrow range on little doing and closed around previous levels.

Marketmen said pick-up in demand from retailers against restricted supplies from producing belts mainly led to the rise in jeera prices.

In the national capital, jeera common and best quality rose by Rs 100 each to Rs 13,800-14,300 and Rs 17,000-17,500 per quintal, respectively.

Following are today's quotations:

Ajwain (per kg) 175-220, black pepper (per kg) 700-900, betel-nut (kg) 280-330, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,710-1,760 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,810-1,910.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 830-900, cardamom (colour robin) 770-830, cardamom bold 800-860, cardamom extra (bold) 1,000-1,030 and cloves 800-900.
