Jeera prices firmed up by Rs 100 per quintal in an otherwise steady wholesale kirana market in the national capital today on increased buying by stockists to meet rising demand.

Traders said increased buying by stockists on pick-up in demand against restricted arrivals from producing areas mainly led to the rise in jeera prices.

Elsewhere, other spices moved in a tight range in limited deals and settled at last levels.

Jeera common and best quality were up by Rs 100 each to Rs 14,500-15,000 and Rs 17,700-18,200 per quintal, respectively.

Following are today's quotations (in Rs):

Ajwain (per kg) 150-180, black pepper (per kg) 560-760, betel-nut (kg) 280-330, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,670-1,710 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,850-1,930.

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 820-890, cardamom (colour robin) 770-820, cardamom bold 790-840, cardamom extra (bold) 980-1,000 and cloves 810-860.
