Jeera weakens on tepid demand

In restricted activity, jeera prices drifted lower by Rs 100 per quintal at the wholesale kirana market today owing to subdued demand against sufficient stocks.

However, other spices after moving in a narrow range on little doing and pegged at previous levels.

Marketmen said besides sluggish demand from retailers and stockists, ample stocks on higher supplies from producing belts, mainly led to the decline in jeera prices.

Jeera common and best quality were down by Rs 100 each to Rs 15,900-16,100 and Rs 17,900-18,400 per quintal respectively.

Ajwain (per kg) 175-240, black pepper (per kg) 720-860, betel-nut (kg) 260-330, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 1,350-1,370 and cardamom brown-Kanchicut (kg) 1,420-1,620.
 

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 570-700, cardamom (colour robin) 570-580, cardamom bold 600-620, cardamom extra (bold) 700-720 and cloves 560-690.
