Jeev second alternate for US Open golf

Jeev narrowly missed out on a spot when he finished one shot back of the last qualifiers at Walton Heath, England. There were a total of 11 qualifiers from the event and Jeev was tied 13th.

The two-time Asian Tour number one posted rounds of 71 and 68 for a five-under-par 139 total in the International Sectional Qualifier which awarded 11 spots to this year's second Major next month.

There were three other Indians in the field and all of them failed to qualify. Himmat Rai (74-73), Anirban Lahiri (73-77) and Shiv Kapur, who all withdrew after a first round of 74.

 

Other Asian Tour members who attempted to qualify for the US Open were Siddikur of Bangladesh who shot rounds of 70 and 73 and current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Jbe Kruger, who fired a 69 and 77.

Another one missing out was Daniel Chopra at Canoe Brooks in the US, where he shot 75-67 and finished tied 13. There were only three berths from the qualifiers.

Korea's Charlie Wi qualified for the US Open after topping the sectional qualifying in Ohio. The seven-time Asian Tour winner fired rounds of 65 and 67 for a nine-under-par 132 total to win the qualifying event by three strokes. MORE
