Hollywood star Jeff Bridges will play the lead in 'The Emperor's Children', an adaptation of Claire Messud's best-selling novel.

The film will be directed by Lake Bell, said The Hollywood Reporter.

Noah Baumbach has written the script, which is described as a quintessential New York narrative as it tells the abstruse life of a legendary journalist and liberal opinion-maker named Murray Thwaite, exposing the ambition and pride of his family and friends, and his entanglement with his daughter's best friend, all in the days leading up to 9/11.

Bridges, 65, will play Thwaite. The producers are planning a shoot later this year as they put the cast together.

The film marks his returns to drama after working in the fantasy and sci-fi fields. 'The Seventh Son', 'The Giver' and 'R I P D' are among his recent credits. Prior to that, he was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in 'True Grit' and won an Oscar for his work in 'Crazy Heart'.
