Jeff Kinney, bestselling author of the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" series, will visit India in December and is thrilled about his trip during which he will also deliver this year's annual Penguin lecture.

This will be Kinney's first visit to India, and it will be an occasion to treasure for his many fans - children as well as those who have grown up with their favourite "Wimpy Kid" series over the last decade.

"He will arrive in India in early December and visit Delhi and Mumbai," publishers Penguin said.

On his upcoming tour Kinney says, "I'm thrilled to visit more places where Wimpy Kid has impacted the lives of young readers. My first global tour was an amazing, uplifting experience. I am looking forward to visiting so many new places this November and December."

He will also deliver the prestigious Penguin Annual Lecture 2016, the date of which will be announced later.

"Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down", the 11th book in the globally bestselling series brought out by Puffin, publishes on November 1.

Hemali Sodhi, Publisher Children's and Senior VP Marketing at Penguin Random House India, says, "This is a dream come true - we are really excited that Jeff Kinney is coming to India. The Penguin Annual Lecture 2016 is going to be incredibly enriching, fun - and like no event we've had before."

Kinney's visit and the lecture will give his countless fans in India a rare opportunity to see their favourite author in person and to interact with him, she said.

The Penguin Annual Lecture series has featured some of the world's most respected leaders, thinkers and writers. Previous lectures have been delivered by the likes of Amartya Sen, the Dalai Lama, A P J Abdul Kalam, Amitabh Bachchan and Ruskin Bond among others.
