Actress Jennifer Beals has been roped in to play the female protagonist in NBC's "Taken" TV series.

Clive Standen also stars in the reboot, which will serve as a prequel to the popular movie trilogy starring Liam Neeson, reported The Wrap.

The 52-year-old "Proof" actress will play Christina Hart, the Special Deputy Director of National Intelligence, who has taken Bryan Mills (Standen) under her wing. She oversees an elite team of operatives who take care of America's national security emergencies.

In the 2008 film "Taken," Neeson played Mills. The series will follow a younger version of the character, before he was married or had children.

Universal Television is producing with EuropaCorp, the production company belonging to film director Luc Besson.
