Comic legend Jerry Lewis died from heart failure, the Clark County Nevada Coroner confirmed.

Doctors attributed his death to "end stage cardiac disease due to peripheral vascular disease", reported People magazine.

Lewis' agent had confirmed that the actor died at his Las Vegas home at around 9:15 am on Sunday morning.

The actor has had a long history of illness. In June, he was hospitalised in Las Vegas after developing a urinary tract infection. He even had battled prostate cancer, diabetes, and viral meningitis.

Lewis was one of Hollywood's most entertaining comedians, whose career spanned for more than six decades. He also was the man behind comedic classics such as "The Nutty Professor" and "The Bellboy".
