Singer Jessie J has been forced to pay 1 million pounds to the manager she dumped before she shot to fame.
Music mogul Raymond Stevenson discovered the singer when she was 15 - and came up with her trademark "swagger". Jessie and her management company had been in dispute with Stevenson for almost two years but will now finally meet his demands.
Jessie, 25, coach on BBC1's 'The Voice', will hand over 20 per cent of her earnings from hit album 'Who You Are', said to currently total 5 million pounds, reported Sun Online.
"This is an absolutely massive payout. Jessie is signed to the type of huge label who usually just get what they want. Ray is extremely well respected, but he runs a relatively small operation and Jessie's people thought he would just roll over," a source said.
Stevenson, who runs management agency 141a, discovered Jessie - real name Jessica Cornish - a decade ago when she was at The Brit music school. He signed her to a label at 19 - and when it went bust, he forked out 70,000 pounds of his own cash to buy her out of the contract.
Stevenson later took Jessie to the US and introduced her to top music industry execs, including former US 'X Factor' judge LA Reid. But when they got back to the UK she got industry giants Crown to represent her.
They brokered a deal with Universal and Jessie has since released six UK Top Ten singles, including two No 1s. Last week she was named on the Sunday Times Rich List after raking in an 8 million pounds fortune to date.
"The parties have reached an amicable resolution," said Jessie and 141a in a joint statement.
Stevenson added, "141a is very proud of Jessie's achievements - she is a very talented artist.
