A 50-year-old man has been arrested after which police today claimed to have busted an "organised syndicate" involved in chain snatching and robbery in the national capital.

The accused, identified as Anand Kumar Soni, was booked under stringent MCOCA and arrested yesterday from Pritam Pura area in northwest Delhi. He owned a jewellery shop which he had to shut down after his previous arrest in 2013, DCP (northwest) Vijay Singh said.

Soni was in constant touch with dozens of snatchers and their families, and whenever any of them landed in the police net, the accused used to stop communicating with him to avoid getting tracked.

He used to carry a weighing machine to purchase and further sell stolen chains on a real-time basis, at times even faster that the time taken by the victims to get a police case registered. He went underground every time his name emerged in connection with any case, police said.
