A jeweller was killed in an apparent robbery attempt at his shop here last night, police said.

The incident was captured by CCTV cameras inside the shop.

Two unidentified men hit Sunil Kankaria (42) on head with a heavy object, causing his death, said superintendent of police Amit Sanghi.

The assailants, who were carrying guns, were hiding in the backyard of Kankaria's shop with the intention of committing robbery, the officer said.

"After the jeweller spotted them, they hit him in the head with some heavy object. Though they had guns as seen in the CCTV footage, they didn't use them," the SP added.

After hitting Kankaria, assailants fled from the scene without committing robbery, he said.

"A case has been registered. We have started a hunt for them on the basis of CCTV footage," the officer said.
