Unidentified persons allegedly burgled a jewellery shop in the city and decamped with jewellery and other items worth about Rs 18.08 lakhs, police said today.
Siddhivinayak Jewellers' owner Atul S Bhanushali said in his police complaint that he had closed his shop on Gokhale Road in the city on Sunday night and when he opened it yesterday (since Monday was weekly off), he found gold jewellery stolen from there, Naupada police station's senior inspector D D Pagare said.
The burglars apparently drilled a hole in the rear portion of the shop during this period and decamped with the jewellery, he said.

This is the fifth time that the shop situated near the Thane railway station has been burgled. It was burgled earlier in 1987, twice in 1991 and once in 1992, Pagare said.
Naupada police have registered offences under sections 454 (house trespass or house-breaking), 457 and 380 (theft) of the IPC and launched a manhunt for the culprits.
