Jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh looted; 2 arrested

Four miscreants allegedly looted jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh from a bullion trader here on gunpoint, police said today.

The incident took place last night in Lakhnadoun town of the district when the miscreants stopped jeweller Rajkumar Nema on gun-point, after he closed his shop and was sitting in his jeep along with the driver, Sub Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP), Choteraja Patel said.

They forced the jeweller and the driver to get down from the jeep and decamped with 33 kg silver and 150 gram gold ornaments kept in a box in the vehicle.

Acting on a tip off, police rushed to the spot. However, the accused managed to escape with the jewellery, leaving behind the jeep in Kekda forest area.
 

During searches police also found another four-wheeler lying deserted in the area and seized both the vehicles.

However, after intense searches, which lasted the entire night, police managed to arrest two miscreants who admitted to the crime along with two others. Police have not disclosed their names and have launched a hunt to apprehend the absconding two and also the looted jewellery, the SDOP added.
