The Journalists' Forum Of Assam (JFA) today appealed people to defy the boycott call given by various militant outfits and celebrate Republic Day.

The media forum, which has been defying the diktat of various outfits to boycott both Republic Day and Independence Day in northeast India since 1998, also made an appeal to citizens to hoist the national flag in their localities.

The JFA, in a statement issued by its president Rupam Barua and secretary Nava Thakuria, further requested all media establishments and journalist organizations including local press clubs of the region to take an initiative to celebrate Republic Day without fear.

"Each Indian should pay homage to the martyrs of our freedom struggle on both Republic and Independence Days by hoisting the Tri-colour as it symbolises the suffering and sacrifices of numerous freedom fighters," the statement said.
