A man was shot dead while another sustained bullet injuries when unidentified persons opened fire on a rival group celebrating the New Year at Adityapur in Seraikela Kharsawan district, police said.
Ganesh Chauhan was shot dead over an old enmity by members of the rival group when he was celebrating at Saldih Bustee, about 3 km from here, Superintendent of Police Inderjeet Mahatha said.
Another person, Bajrang Gorai, sustained bullet injuries and was rushed to Tata Main Hospital, the SSP said.
The SSP said one Babu Gope, who was accompanied by another man, is believed to be the main accused.
Gope had a fight with Chauhan during Janmashtami festival and threatened him with dire consequences, Mahatha added.
