A Jharkhand Armed Police (JAP) jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in a barrack here today, police said.
The incident happened in the barrack located within the premises of Dhukri police station, the police said.
The 52-year-old JAP jawan, Suryadeo Mahato, a resident of Udsula village under the jurisdiction Bishrampur police station in Palamau district, committed suicide at around 6 am today, the Superintendent of Police of Garwah, Shivani Tiwari, said.
The exact reason behind Mahato's suicide is yet to be ascertained, the officer-in-charge of Dhurki police station, Ajit Kumar Bharti, said.
Senior police officials rushed to the spot soon after the incident and started an investigation, the SP said, adding, the body has been sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
Less than a fortnight ago, a police havildar called James Toppo had committed suicide in the police line in Garwah, a police officer said.
