Jharkhand Assembly today paid rich tributes to anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela, saying his death on December 5 left a void in humanity.
"Rarely such personality takes birth to help the humanity. He was the second such personality after Mahatma Gandhi to have brought a regime change treading the path of non-violence," Speaker Shashank Sekhar Bhokta said here.
Taking up the obituary reference on the first day of the winter session, the Speaker said the demise of the Nobel peace prize winner had left a deep sense of hurt in everyone.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren also joined the Speaker and several other members in paying homage to Mandela. The House was adjourned as a mark of respect to Mandela and some other notable personalities, who passed away recently.
