Chief Judicial Magistrate V K Mishra sentenced Singh to a month's imprisonment under IPC 188 (Disobedience of an order lawfully promulgated by a public servant).

The speaker's plea for bail was granted immediately.

Singh had burnt an effigy of Sonia Gandhi at the Albert Ekka Chowk in February, 2005. Singh was at that time the chief whip of the BJP, which was protesting against the dissolution of its party-led government in Goa.

Also convicted and sentenced was Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantric) leader Sanjay Seth, who was in the BJP then, besides others. They were also given bail.
