The Jharkhand assembly today witnessed noisy scene by the opposition MLAs on different issues, including lathicharge on youth Congress workers yesterday and alleged atrocities against minority community.
Continued pandemonium forced Speaker Dinesh Oraon to suspend functioning of the house till 2 PM. And when the assembly reassembled after the lunch break, the opposition staged walk out on different issues. Some bills were passed amidst din before the house was adjourned till tomorrow.
The ruling BJP slammed the opposition parties for stalling the assembly proceedings and thereby hurting the democratic pillars.
Constitutional pillars are strong in a democracy. The representatives of the people are responsible for the people. Unfortunately the opposition in Jharkhand is taking things cheaply, BJPs state unit General Secretary Deepak Prakash told a joint press conference here along with partys chief whip in the state assembly, Radhakrishna Kishore.
In the morning, as soon as the assembly started at 11 AM, the opposition members raised different issues and trooped to the well of the house shouting slogans.
The Speaker rejected four adjournment motions brought by the opposition members, saying it was not in the greater interest of the people.
Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) Legislature Leader Pradip Yadav and JMM MLA Stephen Marandi brought adjournment motions relating to alleged atrocities against minority community.
Congress Legislature Party leader Alamgir Alam brought an adjournment motion on the lathicharge on youth Congress activists yesterday and JMMs Kunal Sarangi brought an adjournment on an issue pertaining to Jharkhand Public Service Commission.
Replying in the house, Jharkhand Parliamentary Affairs Minister Nilkanth Singh Munda informed that the police had to use mild baton charge on the activists of the Youth Congress as they broke the police barricade leaving some police personnel injured.
"The police had to use mild lathi charge at Birsa Chowk (in Ranchi) to bring order after the demonstrators broke the police barricade and indulged in stone throwing. In the ensuing stampede some people were injured," Munda said, adding several police men were also injured in the incident.
Saying that the government was ready to talk and listen to everyone, Munda referred to a similar incidence during the erstwhile Madhu Koda government when senior BJP leaders like C P Singh, Yashwant Sinha and Karia Munda were injured during a demonstration.
