'Jharkhand interested in buying rice from Bengal'

The Jharkhand government has expressed its keenness to buy rice from West Bengal and wants to study the successful public distribution mechanism in the once Maoist-hit Jangalmahal of the neighbouring state.

"Today I had a meeting with the Food Minister of Jharkhand. He has expressed his desire to buy rice from Bengal as they are very much impressed with the quality of rice that is being produced here," West Bengal Food Supplies Minister Jyotipriyo Mullick told PTI.

Mullick said the Jharkhand government is very much impressed by the PDS system in (West) Bengal and wants it to take it up as a role model.
 

"They are very much impressed by our PDS system, especially how this system has brought in drastic changes in the once Maoist infested Jungalmahal area. They want to take it up as a role model," Mullick said.

Jharkhand Food Minister Saryu Rai while speaking to the reporters after the meet said, that they would try to implement the way the Bengal has successful implemented the PDS system in the state.
