Jharkhand Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs Minister Saryu Roy has urged the state health department to ensure testing the quality of food products.
In a letter sent yesterday to his cabinet colleague and Health Minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi, Roy urged him to ensure that the directorate in the health department discharges its responsibility effectively by conducting regular tests of food products and water bottles being sold in the state.
Releasing a copy of the letter to the media today, Roy also requested the minister to take stringent action against the guilty if quality of food and water were found hazardous to the health of consumers.
The health department had already sent samples of Maggie noodles to a lab in Kolkata and was expecting reports by Monday, sources a health department official said.
